Five Wishes

We are excited to announce that Pastoral Counseling Services of the South Shore received a grant from the United Methodist Foundation of New England to offer local seminars helping people with Advanced Healthcare Directives. The planning tool that will be presented at these seminars is entitled Five Wishes.

With more than 35 million copies in circulation and translations in 28 languages, Five Wishes is America's most popular living will.  In addition to using everyday language and being easy to follow, Five Wishes is also a legal document!

This legal document helps people of any age plan how they want to be cared for at the end of life, including addressing medical as well as spiritual decisions.

 

The 90-minute seminars and accompanying Five Wishes materials are free of charge. These seminars will be facilitated by our trained counselors -- Laura Bishop, LICSW, and Albert Rice, Intern.

 

Participants will learn about how advanced healthcare directives are used and will also have an opportunity to complete their own Five Wishes directive. If participants have individual concerns they would like to discuss more privately, one-on-one meetings with either Laura or Albert can be arranged. These appointments would be billed through Medicare or through one’s private insurance.
