Chelsea joins PCSSS as a Doctoral Candidate intern from Saybrook University. She is very passionate in her work because she understands the trauma of being raised in a chaotic and violent household; even more so, she understands what it takes to recover and build resilience. Academically, she pursues mindfulness, identity, resilience, spirituality, attachment, and feminism. In a previous life, Chelsea was an actor but realized she preferred helping other actors more than performing. Now she studies psychology to use her compassion to help anyone who needs to find their own resilience.
For eight years—at both inpatient and outpatient facilities—Chelsea worked as an addiction counselor helping individuals understand and heal from the trauma(s) that took them into addiction. Chelsea’s empathic manner encourages clients to focus on emotional and somatic feelings fostering emotional self-knowledge and promoting physical autonomy of their emotional reactions. She believes in the education of each human’s—simultaneous—commonality and uniqueness, which provides each of us the room to learn and grow to our highest potential. She holds compassion for every gender, sexuality, race, culture, and walk of life, focusing her work on recovery and resilience-building after interpersonal trauma.
